- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 package active dry yeast (1 tablespoon)
- 2¾ cups stirred whole-wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons oil
- ¼ cup toasted sesame seed
Wheat Crackers
How to Make the Crisp Wheat Crackers.
- Dissolve sugar in the warm water; sprinkle yeast over top; let set about 10 minutes.
- Put 1 cup of the flour in mixing bowl; add yeast mixture; stir; put in warm place 10-15 minutes.
- Stir salt into the remaining flour; add about 1 cup flour, the oil, and sesame seed to batter.
- Knead well. Add remaining flour while kneading.
- Divide into 4 portions for small cookie sheets or 2 portions for large cookie sheets.
- Roll out each portion on an oiled cookie sheet until like very thin pie crust.
- Score into crackers about 1½-inch square, or into other desired sizes or shapes.
- Let stand 30 minutes in warm place.
- Bake at 250° F. until light brown (about 1 hour).
- Serve with soups, salads, dips.
